Not who I thought he would be
After reading this book in one day, I have to admit I cannot fathom NOT how this man has ascended to be Donald Trump's VP choice, but HOW he has clearly set aside his obvious disdain (if not worse) for the likes of Trump (loudmouth lying bullies) in order to fawn on him and serve him. I am suspicious -- because Vance clearly believes in honor more than Trump will ever show anything or anyone. In terms of this publication -- it has several glaring errors that shocked me (one chapter repeats the same sentence three times) (unless this is an oversight of the copying process that lands it on Internet Archive), and several outright typos. With regard to Vance's take on life (which I read as this: Children need someone strong in their lives to help them see there is a solution forward --- when life continuously hands them its awful hateful side and that solution is education and persistence), his overall position seems to be that a person's future begins and ends with solid education, and a good home, bereft of drugs, fighting, and filth, but when the latter are the reality, one person's encouragement can make all the difference. So few in poverty make it, but if there is just one person willing to make a difference for a child, that could be ALL the difference. Vance admits he carries demons - and he fights them, but he recognizes them for what they are: The product of a troubled childhood. I'm not sure how I feel about this man being one heartbeat away from the most powerful office in the world, but he's a damn sight better than Trump will ever be. He has determination, grit, ghosts and love. An interesting read - not boring.
